Once again we are very pleased to have recently held our annual Face of Headlines competition in conjunction with the Echo newspaper. The competition, which is in it's 4th year, has always attracted a huge number of entries, and this year was no exception, with over 50 entrants.

The initial stage of the competition is a photographic entry, and from these we choose 6 potential winners.

The finalists then battle it out to be the winners of the competition.

The finalists, patiently awaited their fate at the photo shoot on March 8th – knowing that only 2 of them would win the coveted Face of Headlines competition.

The hair was styled and make-up applied by Premium Stylists Brad Allen from Billericay and Louise Carter from our Benfleet salon.

The standard of entries was very high and it made choosing our finalists very difficult. However, after much deliberation, the winners were announced as Lauren Samuels and Alfie Soar.

For Lauren, the glamour of the photoshoot was a world away from her day-today life as a student studying forensic science and criminology at university, although Lauren readily admits that she has always been interested in modelling. The 20 year old said "I think it will be a fun thing to do on the side whilst I am studying. I was really nervous at first in front of the camera, but once the photo shoot got under way, I really enjoyed it."

A level student Alfie, 17, from Leigh hopes to make a career out of modelling, and has his granddad to thank for telling him about the Face of Headlines competition.

Alfie explains: "He is always telling me I should try modelling, so when he showed me the competition in the paper, I decided to go for it."

We were looking for faces that were strong, attractive and would look fantastic showcasing our latest hairdressing trends, whilst appealing to the broadest range of ages.

Alfie and Lauren will now be involved in photo shoots for all Headlines' marketing and advertising material as well as taking part in hairshows and competitions.
